Making the Drug Detox Dream Come True

The last time you saw the judge you said, “I won’t be back.” You saw the judge’s eyes and knew he did not believe anything you said, but the important thing about saying that to the judge was your believing it. You knew that drunk driving tickets and losing your car, the expense of drinking, and the shame associated with drinking was over for you. You had enough and you made the best decision of your life. Now you have to prove that what you did for yourself by entering an alcohol rehab center was the right step.

Others knew it was your only option, but now you knew too. When you entered the alcohol rehab clinic, there was actually a waiting list and you felt special again because you got in; this was a new club of sorts that you had signed up for and it was for life. Some of the alcohol rehabs you read about did a little bit of everything but this one did all the necessary support and counseling you wanted. The counseling you needed to stay sober.

There was a last minute thought to drink the last drink of alcohol and then you changed your mind. If you had drunk another drink then you were not ready. One moment at a time and one less challenge for you; some of your friends having Addiction treatment needed more drug detox time and you hoped this would not happen to you. So far so good, you have not begun to detox as you have seen others doing. The alcohol detox professionals had several people screaming and you knew that those people were in pain.

Their addictions had monopolized their bodies for years. A pain or two from your body, but for the most part, your body was not as bad off as others were. Healing was your only focus and moving away from the addiction to alcohol that brought you to the facility. People from your church tried to help you but you just could not connect with them and their message.

It was a good message but not filled with what you needed to hear. Your private sessions with a counselor revealed that you needed to find yourself again. There was time in the alcohol rehab program to mount the big effort to find what was best for you. Since being at the facility, you had not thought of taking a drink, the old urges were not there.

You felt that recovery was almost over but you knew that to work through all your demons your recovery would really last a lifetime. Then when you left, the center would be the time to speak with church members and they could be part of your addiction treatment plan at home. This was a comforting thought as you went to sleep at night. Asleep on clean sheets, all white, and as you close your eyes, you saw the judge smiling back at you, a dream that reflects the changes made to your life.
